GUNNISON, Colo. The final dual of the regular season for Western Colorado brings rival and 22nd-ranked Colorado Mesa University to Paul Wright Gym on the Mountaineers' Senior Night.
Western heads into the dual with a 9-5 overall record and a 3-2 mark in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action, while the Mavericks enter at 5-4 overall and 2-3 in conference duals.
Both team's records include an early-season non-conference dual at Mesa, won by Western, 21-17, on
Riley Butt's first-period pin in the final match at 285 pounds.
National individual rankings see both teams with a pair within the top 15 of their respective weight classes.
The Mavs send Owen Cline to the mat at 157 pounds, ranked No. 7 nationally, and near the end of the dual will see eighth-ranked Gabriel Carranza step into the circle at 197 pounds.
Western will counter Cline with 11th-ranked
Vincent Cabral in one of the highlight bouts of the evening but will open the dual with eighth-ranked
Devin Gomez at 125 pounds.
Both the Mountaineers and Mavs share RMAC wins over New Mexico Highlands and Colorado State Pueblo, and conference losses to a ranked squads from Colorado School of Mines and Adams State.
The difference in their RMAC records stands on Western's 20-18 win over No. 17 Chadron State and Mesa's 22-12 loss to the Eagles.
In non-conference opponents, the team's share wins at the Tracy Borah Duals over Cal Poly Humboldt and Minot State, but the Mavs also earned a win at the Duals over Vanguard University while the Mountaineers dropped a 23-17 loss to the Lions.
Prior to the dual Western will recognize seniors
Peyton Harris and Butt, who are graduating after the Spring 2026 semester.
In addition, the night will also serve as the program's Faculty/Staff Recognition night, with each of the wrestlers presenting appreciation certificates to their respective faculty or staff representatives whom they wish to honor.
UP NEXT
Western will be hosting the Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open on Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. in the Mountaineer Field House.
