ALAMOSA, Colo. Western Colorado wrestling wasn't able to duplicate its upset results of one night prior, dropping a 34-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference decision to 16th-ranked and host Adams State Friday night at Plachy Hall.
On Thursday, at home in Paul Wright Gym, the Mountaineers upset No. 17 Chadron State, 20-18.
The dual against the Grizzlies, however, didn't roll that way as ASU, while not registering any pins, earned six bonus-point victories during Friday's dual.
Western's lone win of the night came at the final weight as
Riley Butt – who earned the win Friday to push Western from behind in the upset of Chadron State – picked up a 5-2 decision at 285 pounds, scoring a deciding takedown midway through the third period.
In one of the Mountaineers' close calls during the dual, 11th-ranked
Vincent Cabral surrendered only an escape and ride time point in a 2-0 win by third-ranked Aaden Valdez at 157 pounds.
In another tight match,
Hunter Richardson only gave up one takedown in a 4-1 loss at 174 pounds.
