• Western faces off against the Mavericks and Griffins in a pair of non-conference matches with the RMAC's "regional pod play" scheduled for this week.
• The Mountaineers are coming off a 1-1 home weekend in which they swept Regis University, 3-0, before falling to Chadron State, 3-2, in a rare reverse sweep accomplished by the Eagles.
• Western last defeated a CMU squad in October 2012, while its last victory over Westminster was an Octo. 2024 match.
• Mesa (9-3, 3-1 RMAC) split its two matches last weekend, pulling out a reverse sweep victory over defending national champion MSU Denver before dropping the final two sets in a 3-2 loss to UC Colorado Springs that closed out the week.
• The Griffins come into Friday's match at Western with a three-match losing streak, it's most recent win a 3-0 sweep of N.M. Highlands on Sept. 11.

• The Mountaineers played to a 1-1 draw with CSU Pueblo to start last weekend, earning an important point in the RMAC standings, but finished the week on Sunday with a loss to ninth-ranked UC Colorado Springs.
• Western and Westminster played to a 1-1 draw here at home last season, but its most recent win over the Griffins was back in the 2017 season.
• Mesa has always been a tough opponent for the Mountaineers, whose overall record against the Mavericks is 2-14-2, the two victories coming in a four-match unbeaten string from 2013 to 2015. Western played to a 3-1 victory in 2012, played to a pair of scoreless draws in both games in the 2014 season, then finished on top again, 1-0, in the lone match in 2015.
• The Griffins haven't lost yet this season, bringing a 2-0-2 overall record and a 0-0-2 RMAC count into Friday's match. Both of their draws came in their most recent games, a pair of scoreless results against MSU Denver and Colorado Christian to open their RMAC schedule.
• Mesa plays visiting Fort Lewis two days before visiting Western. The Mavs are on a four-game win streak, their most recent defeat a 1-0 loss to then-No. 18 Texas Woman's University on Sept. 5.

• It's the 79th meeting of the Colorado Classic between Western and the Grizzlies. The Mountaineers own the series edge, 44-34, and have not lost the matchup since ASU won the game in 2019.
• Western has run its season-opening win streak to four games, following a 31-17 road win at Colorado Mesa. The Mountaineer defense limited the Mavs to just 79 net rushing yards and 2.8 yards per rushing attempt.
• Western also forced three fumbles, each recovered by a Mountaineer. Perhaps the most important of those was Gabe Schubarth's forced fumble of a CMU kickoff return in the final 25 seconds of the second quarter. Western had just kicked a field goal to move ahead 17-10 when Schubarth knocked the ball loose, which was recovered by Jack Ward and returned to the Mesa 3 yard line. Josiah Roy hit Antwuan Jackson in the right corner of the end zone on the next play to push the Mountaineer advantage to 24-10 entering the halftime break.
• Western's defense leads the RMAC allowing opponents to an average of 299 yards of total offense. They also lead the league in sacks with a total of 17.
• The Mountaineers enter the Classic averaging 24 points per game while Adams State is scoring at a 23.5 PPG level.
• While the Western defense leads the league in yards allowed per game, Adams State ranks last in that category, surrendering 515 yards of offense each game.
• The Grizzlies, however, do have the RMAC's leading rusher in Andre Branch, who posts a 110 YPG average coming into Saturday night's game.
• For the second week in a row, the Mountaineers rank No. 8 in both the D2Football.com and American Football Coaches Association national Division II polls.
