LANCASTER, Pa. An NCAA Division II record-tying performance that already netted one player of the week honor has earned Western Colorado's
JT Miller a national honor, as on Tuesday he was announced as the D2Football.com Special Teams Player of the Week.
Miller, the Mountaineers' junior place-kicker, went 6-for-6 in field goal attempts during Western's 55-0 victory Oct. 17 against visiting Fort Lewis College. His six made field goals, with a long of 47, tied the DII single-game record as well as the Colorado state record for collegiate players.
Also converting on all three point-after attempts, his 21 points ties the DII single-game scoring record for kickers.
Announced as the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) special teams player of the week on Monday, Miller leads both Western and the RMAC in scoring with 79 points this season.
His 15 made field goals tops all RMAC placekickers, as does his field goal percentage of 94 percent (15-of-16).
This is No. 6 Western's second D2Football.com special teams player of the week award, after senior defensive back
Jevon Young earned the honor announced on Sept. 29 after blocking three punts, one he recovered in the end zone for a touchdown, in a 70-21 home win over Adams State.
