WICHITA FALLS, Texas The seventh-ranked Mountaineers make their first road trip of the season with Saturday's non-conference matchup under the lights at Midwestern State University.
Last season, in the first meeting between the two programs, Western Colorado earned a 38-33 home victory over the Mustangs.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025 Stats
- The Mountaineers opened the season with a 45-28 win over visiting West Texas A&M, the third win in a row over the Buffaloes who had won the previous three meetings.
- Western broke from a 21-21 halftime tie to out score the visitors 24-7 over the third and fourth quarters.
- Quarterback Drew Nash earned National Football Foundation – Colorado Chapter Player of the Week honors with his performance in the game, rushing for a game-high 95 yards and two touchdowns while throwing for three touchdowns and 190 yards passing.
- The Mountaineers used a balanced attack against West Texas, rushing for 251 yards with 229 yards through the air added in. Their total offensive total of 480 yards was tops in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on the opening weekend of action.
MIDWESTERN STATE HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025 Stats
- The Mustangs dropped their opener, 33-19, at Missouri Southern, despite quarterback Jakolby Longino's efforts.
- Longino connected with Demonte Greene for a 75-yard touchdown on the first offensive play of the game, and finished with 359 yards passing, no interceptions, and the one scoring toss.
- However, MSU rushed for only 88 yards on the ground, and were held to an early fourth quarter field goal in second half action.
- The Mustangs finished 2024 with a 4-7 record overall and a 3-6 mark against Lone Star Conference opponents.

Western begins RMAC action with its next game, traveling to Alamosa, Colo., for the annual Colorado Classic against host Adams State on Sept. 20. The Mountaineers have won the past four Classics, including last season's 38-0 home win over the Grizzlies at the Mountaineer Bowl.
