PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado's
Logan Butterfield and
Kelia Portis registered career-best marks Saturday at the Colorado State University Pueblo Last Chance Meet in the CSU ThunderBowl.
Butterfield landed a career toss of 56.59 meters (185 feet-7.75 inches) during the men's hammer throw, scoring the new PR on his first throw of the day. The mark improves upon his second-place standing on Western's all-time top-10 list in the event.
Portis raced to a new PR in the women's 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish in a time of 1 minute, 1.54 seconds, improving the time of her third-place standing on the Mountaineer top-10 list in the event. In addition, after the altitude adjustment her ranking time of 1:01.65 improved her standing within the NCAA Division II performance list to No. 43 in the country.
In the men's 3,000m steeplechase, Western's
Kyle Partin finished in 9:13.11, which converts to 8:50.09 after the altitude adjustment and elevates him to 20th on the DII performance list.
In a shorter hurdles event,
James Duncan was just 4/100ths of a second off equaling his career-best time in the men's 110m hurdles, finishing Saturday's sprint in a time of 14.58 seconds.
The meet was scheduled one week after the conference championship meet and provided participants the opportunity to earn or better NCAA Division II provisional marks. And with one more weekend before the qualification deadline, Western will likely seek out other last-chance opportunities.
