Mountaineers Find Success on Opening Night of Bryan Clay

AZUSA, Calif.  Western Colorado track & field put three runners on the track Wednesday night at the Bryan Clay Invitational, opening the three-day meet at Cougar Athletic Stadium on the campus of Azusa Pacific University with strong performances against competitors mainly from Division I programs.

Eddie Siuda and Jayda Nix each registered lifetime best runs in their respective heats of the 3,000-meter steeplechase while Allison Beasley – who already owns the third-fastest steeplechase time in program history – recorded the second-fastest clocking of her career.

Siuda was first to the starting line Wednesday night, taking off under the lights in the sixth of seven heats of the men's Open event. He finished fourth in his heat with a time of 8 minutes, 50.09 seconds that placed him 19th of the 97 competitors in the Open division.

The time was a personal best for Siuda by three seconds, a previous mark that he had achieved when earning a second-team All-America honor at the 2024 NCAA Division II outdoor track & field championship. His time also bested the NCAA provisional time (9:11.00) and will quite possibly lift him into the top 10 on the DII performance list in the event.

Nix was next up for the Mountaineers, competing in the women's Open heats of the event.

She already had raced to an NCAA provisional mark two weeks prior to the Bryan Clay with the 31st-fastest time (altitude adjusted) in DII. Wednesday's new PR blew that time out of the water, though.

Nix crossed the finish at 10:42.21, a whopping 33 seconds faster than her previous best, and a clocking that was 51st of 97 runners and one that vaults her into the top 15 on the national performance list in DII.

Western's final runner of the night was Beasley, competing in the Invited division of the event.

A multiple-time All-American who finished second in the event at the 2023 NCAA outdoor championship, Beasley went off in the first of the two heats of the division. She crossed the finish in a time of 10:18.68 – trailing only the 10:12.21 she put down at last season's Bryan Clay in her personal event history – to finish 25th overall as the third fastest time for a DII runner in the Invited division.

Beasley's time easily surpassed the provisional time standard (11:00.51) and likely slips her into the top five of the DII performance list.

UP NEXT
