GUNNISON, Colo.  Candi Kay Borah, age 66, passed away on Thursday, August 1 at the Montrose hospital after complications from recent surgeries.

Candi was a true Gunnison native, born at Gunnison Valley Hospital on November 5, 1957.  Her father was the long-time wrestling coach and Athletic Director at Western State College (now Western Colorado University) who left a lasting legacy of excellence for the WSC athletic program, a legacy that Candi carried forward thru her commitment to the Mountaineer Athletic Association and the Tracy Borah Memorial Wrestling Scholarship.

The Scholarship was her true love for WSC and her father's memory, as she helped administer the scholarship through the many recipients and donators, together with former WSC wrestler Louie Carleo.

Louie established the scholarship shortly after Tracy's passing in 1996, and it was Candi's fondest wish to see the scholarship grow to a self-sustaining program that would serve the great athletes of WSC.

Although Candi's wish was not to have a memorial service, her family is sure that she would approve of the reception to honor her many contributions to the scholarship fund and the MAA, hopefully expanding the funds of the Tracy Borah Memorial Wrestling Scholarship and/or the MAA.

Mountaineer Athletics invites the public to a celebration of Candi Borah's contributions to Western Colorado, an event slated for Wednesday, August 28 at 5 p.m., at Western Colorado University's Aspinall-Wilson Center on campus. Food will be provided by 5 B's BBQ.
