Mountaineers Unable to Hold Off Skyhawks on the Road

DURANGO, Colo. Western Colorado fell to Fort Lewis 75-66 on Saturday night in Durango, Colo., as the trio of Ivey Schmidt, Erika Lane and Alyssa Eckroth all scored in double figures.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Fort Lewis scored 20 points in both the first and second quarters to give them a 15-point advantage going into halftime, while the Mountaineers scored just 10 points in the first quarter.  
  • The Mountaineers scored just once in the first three minutes of the second half but would find themselves down by as much as 17 points with 7 minutes, 58 seconds on the clock. The Mountaineers then started an eight-point run that cut the Skyhawks lead to ten.  
  • Fort Lewis made a pair of free throws making it 48-36 game before Eckroth went to the free throw line and made both of her free throws. Lane then cut the Mountaineers lead to eight with a three-pointer assisted by Zoe Kennedy.  
  • Eckroth once again made her way to the free throw line and made it a six-point game. The two teams then exchanged shots for the rest of the third quarter and the Mountaineers went into the final 10 minutes down 53-45. Western Colorado had their best shooting quarter in the third as they shot 46-percent from the field and 60-percent from beyond the arc.  
  • The Mountaineers' 21 points in the quarter was not enough as the Skyhawks made 46-percent of their shots to end the game and grab the 9-point win.  

COURT NOTES 

  • Ivey Schmidt led the Mountaineers with 17-points going 3-for-4 from beyond the arc and 4-for-4 from the free throw line. Erika Lane's 16 points came after she went 5-for-13 from the field. Alyssa Eckroth went 3-for-8 from the field and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.  
  • Brooklyn Seymour led the Mountaineers with nine rebounds with eight defensive boards. Lane and Kennedy both registered seven rebounds, while Schmidt registered a pair of steals.  

UP NEXT 

The Mountaineers will return to Paul Wright Gym in Gunnison, Colo., next weekend for the final time this regular season as they take on Regis at 5 p.m., on Friday, Feb. 23. Western Colorado will then take on University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Saturday, Feb. 24 at 3 p.m.
