Grizzlies Early Offensive Power Leads to Mountaineers Loss

ALAMOSA, Colo. Western Colorado could not quiet down the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference top scoring team, Adams State, as they fell 100-54 Friday night. Alyssa Eckroth and Erika Lane both scored in double digits against the Grizzlies.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Adams State did not give up the lead all night, starting the game shooting 81-percent from the field and 66-percent from three-point range. Erika Lane put the Mountaineers first points on the board, a three-point shot, with eight minutes and 12 seconds left in the first quarter. The Grizzlies then went on a six-point run to give them a 10-point lead. The Mountaineers went into the second quarter down 21 points.  

  • In the second, Western Colorado held ASU to 19 points while they scored 14 points of its own. Eckroth led the Mountaineers with four points in the second quarter, while Brooklyn Seymour and Natalie Jojola registered three points each in the final 10 minutes of the first half. The Grizzlies went into half time up by 52-26.  

  • Western Colorado regsitered 19 points in the third quarter but was not enough as the Grizzlies shot 60% in the quarter extending their lead to 31 points before the fourth quarter.  

  • Western Colorado scored just nine points in the fourth quarter, while the Grizzlies closed out the game with 24 more points.  

 COURT NOTES 

  • Alyssa Eckroth led the Mountaineers with 16 points going 7-for-13 from the field. Her teammate Erika Lane scored 11 points going 4-for-9 from the field and 3-for-6 from beyond the arc.  

  • Defensively, Brooklyn Seymour registered 11 rebounds, while Eckroth tallied seven rebounds and two steals Friday night.  

  • The Mountaineers shot 33% from the field, while their counterpart in ASU shot 61% from the field.

The Mountaineers will now take on Fort Lewis tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 17 at 4 p.m. in Whalen Gym.
