GUNNISON, Colo. Western Colorado's track & field team hosted the first meet of its indoor season, with both
Nykole Meshew and
Allison Beasley posting NCAA Division II provisional marks in winning their respective events Saturday at the Mountaineer Open in the Mountaineer Field House.
Meshew won the women's high jump, clearing a height of 1.70 meters (5 feet-6.75 inches), and on the oval it was Beasley winning the women's mile in a time of 5 minutes, 10.70 seconds.
The pair were just two of 11 first-place finishes by Western Colorado athletes at the Open.
The wins on the track came early in the day as in the second event of the day,
John Houdeshell hit the tape first in the men's 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:31.25.
Beasley was the winner in the next event, followed immediately by
Esteban Deniz who captured the men's mile with a winning time of 4:30.99.
Kiarra Lapp made it three in a row for Western as her time of 1:01.17 was the fastest in the women's 400m run.
In the final individual women's track event in the schedule, the Mountaineers'
Lauren Willson cruised to a 14-second victory in the 3,000, clocking a time of 10:32.36.
Seven of Western's top-of-the-podium finishes came in the field events, beginning with the men's weight throw.
Logan Butterfield kicked off his final season at Western with a first-place heave of 17.96m (58-11).
While Meshew won the women's high jump, teammate
Torrin Franklin won the men's event, with a winning height of 1.70 (5-6.75).
The pole vault saw Mountaineer winners in both events.
Aaleiah Porter-Gyll cleared a height of 3.18m (10-5) to win the women's pole vault, while
Max Kittsteiner won the men's vault with a height of 4.44m (14-6.75).
Jacob Doyle won the men's shot put (14.34m/47-0.5) and
Eireann Donohoe won the women's triple jump (11.71m/38-5) for the final two first-place finishes on the day for the Mountaineers.
