KEARNEY, Neb. Mountaineer wrestling won two of three matches Saturday at the Younes Hospitality Midwest Duals, with
Ryan Wilson and
Cole Hernandez each winning all three of their matches.

WESTERN def. MARYVILLE (MO.), 29-14
- Roberto Estrada got the Mountaineers off on the right foot in the opening match at 125 pounds with a first-period pin, but Maryville pushed into the lead with a decision and a major in the next two bouts.
- The middle of the Western lineup changed the complexion of the match, though, winning five straight beginning with Dean Noble's 14-1 major at 149.
- Wilson followed at 157 with a 5-0 decision, then Walker Heckendorf added a 13-2 major at 165.
- The exclamation point at the tail end of that winning streak came Cole Hernandez at 174 and Cole Gray at 184. Hernandez, ranked fourth nationally, registered a third-period pin and Gray earned a fall just 78 seconds into his match.
- The Saints won the final two bouts, but Western's six wins, including three falls and two majors, had already determined the final outcome.
NO. 1 CENTRAL OKLAHOMA def. WESTERN, 34-6
- The momentum from the Mountaineers' opening match win was halted by the top-ranked Bronchos.
- Western earned its first victory of the match at 157 with a Wilson 7-1 decision that finally broke the ice on a 18-0 UCO start to the match.
- The only other win for the Mountaineers was by Hernandez at 174 in a high-scoring 16-11 decision.
WESTERN def. OUACHITA BAPTIST, 42-9
- Things turned around quickly for Western with Estrada's 23-6 technical fall victory at 125 that opened the dual against the Tigers.
- OBU picked up a forfeiture win at 133, but the dominance rolled right back in the Mountaineers' favor at 141 with a Noah Kasprowicz 18-2 tech fall that began a string of three bonus point wins.
- Dean Noble followed with a first-period fall at 149, followed by a 17-0 tech fall by Wilson at 157.
- Heckendorf worked through a 4-0 shutout decision at 165, with Hernandez picking up a fall in 104 seconds at 174, just outdoing Gray at 184 who took 111 seconds to earn his pin.
- Sage Harrison made it three falls in a row with his third-period pin at 197 before OBU would finally win another bout with a narrow 4-2 decision at 285 to close out the non-conference match.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers (8-3 overall) enter back into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference competition, heading to Colorado State University Pueblo on Friday, seeking to keep a perfect conference mark (3-0) intact.
