FAIRBANKS, Alaska/COLO. SPGS., Colo. The Mountaineer swimming and diving program will split into different directions for the weekend, the swimmers heading north to Fairbanks, Alaska, and the divers making the much shorter trip to Colorado Springs.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
- The University of Alaska Fairbanks will host the Mountaineer swimmers for separate dual meets on Friday and Saturday at the Nanooks' Patty Center Pool. These two, separate, meets will be the first competitions between the two programs.
- Western recently completed an unbeaten Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference slate with Saturday's dominant win over visiting Adams State. The Mountaineers improved to 5-0 in duals, overall and RMAC, to complete a second consecutive perfect RMAC schedule.
- Saturday's win over the Grizzlies saw double-event winners in Jordan Maruska (200- and 500-yd. freestyles), LynDea Turner (100 backstroke, 400 individual medley), Leah Wagner (100 and 200 breaststrokes), and Ashlynn Mixon (1-meter 11 dives, and 1m-6 optionals).
- Mixon posted a collegiate personal best of 327.55 points in the 11-dive event Saturday, while Andie Moon's second-place total of 260.90 was a career best total.
- Last season both the swimmers and divers competed in the Colorado College Classic, placing second only to the host Tigers. This year with the split, only Mixon and Moon will be at the Classic, with diving coach Abe Sala mentoring the pair.
ALASKA FAIRBANKS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
- The Nanooks carry a 2-8 overall record and 2-5 mark in the Pacific Collegiate Swim and Dive Conference (PCSC). Their two victories came against Westmont (Calif.) College last weekend, with both coming from free relay wins in the final event.
