Sala stepped into his role as the Mountaineer diving coach in January 2024.
He came to Western Colorado after serving two years as the diving coach at University of Nebraska Kearney, an associate member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in swimming.
At Kearney he trained and recruited divers to the Lopers program, and in September 2023 was tabbed the interim head swim coach, in addition to his dive coaching duties.
Sala obtained his bachelor's degree in kinesiology from Coe (Iowa) College where he dove for the Kohawks and also served as an assistant diving coach during his final season.
While assisting the Kohawk diving program, he had one diver win the conference on both the 1- and 3-meter boards and the same diver qualified for the NCAA Division III Regional diving meet on the 1-meter board.
During his student-athlete days Sala placed second in back to back seasons on the 1m at the conference meet, and placed third in back to back seasons on the 3m.
