No. 17 Mountaineers gear up for Mavericks

GUNNISON, Colo. No. 17 Western Colorado will host Colorado Mesa part of the Mountaineers homecoming weekend. The Mountaineers will debut their black jerseys as the game will be blackout themed. Ā 

The Mountaineers have won the past three contests against the Mavericks including a 42-34 overtime victory last season. Ā 
  
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKENDĀ Ā 

  • Drew Nash was named the National Football Foundation Colorado Chapter's Player of the Week for his excellent play against Chadron State last weekend where he was 28-for-41 for 320 yards and two touchdowns. The redshirt sophomore ranks fifth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in passing yards (862), passing yards per game (215.5) and touchdowns (6). Ā 

  • Deyvon Butler leads the Mountaineers in rushing with 274 yards and six touchdowns so far this season. Ā 

  • Kendall Lighfoot leads Western Colorado with 26 tackles including registering a season-high eight tackles against the Eagles last weekend. Ā 

MAVERICKS HEADING INTO THE WEEKENDĀ Ā 

  • Junior Keenan Brown enters this weekend as Colorado Mesa's leading receiver with 16 catches for 406 yards. He currently ranks third in the conference in receiving yards. Ā 

  • Gavin Herberg controls the Maverick offense at the Quarterback position with 717 passing yards while averaging 179.25 passing yards per game. Ā 

  • Jason Thome has led the Mavericks defensive efforts collecting four interceptions this season. He is nationally ranked second in interceptions per game with one which leads the RMAC. Ā 

ON THE FIELD NEXTĀ 
The Mountaineers will travel to Rapid City, S.D., on Saturday, Oct. 7 to face South Dakoata Mines. Kickoff is slated for noon MT at O'Herra Stadium. Ā
