CANYON, Texas Western Colorado will open their season in Canyon, Texas taking on a pair of Lone Star conference schools. They will face University of Texas Tyler on Friday, November 10 at noon, followed by a contest with No. 7 West Texas A&M on Saturday Nov. 11 at noon in Canyon, Texas.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND

The Mountaineers are looking to bounce back after a 4-22 overall record last season under the direction of new head coach Zac Claus.

Avery Rembao and Kade Juelfs highlight the 16-man roster, that has a big veteran presence with 12 returners.

Rembao became the ninth player in Western Colorado Men's Basketball history to score 1,000 points in his career while finishing the season with a total of 1,149 career points. He led the Mountaineers with 16.4 points per game with a 37.4-percent shooting from the field.

Kade Juelfs leads the Mountaineers active roster in total rebounds with 83, averaging 3.2 per game. Offensively, he recorded 9.5 points per game with a 37.1 percent-shooting from the field.
PATRIOTS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND

University of Texas Tyler is coming into the 2023-24 season with a fresh start as they have a new head coach in Tim Moser and have only three returners on the roster. Bryce Roberts transferred to UT Tyler and landed a spot on the LSC Players to watch list.

After a 9-17 overall record last season with a 5-17 record in the Lone Star Conference the Patriots were ranked 15th in the LSC Preseason Poll.

Terrell Wilson is one of UT Tyler's three returners with 7.7 points per game with a 38-percent shooting from the field. Aa a unit the Patriots' offense averaged 66.5 points per game with the defense averaging 35.2 rebounds per game.

West Texas A&M is ranked No. 7 in the latest National Association of Basketball Coaches poll and first in the LSC preseason poll. WTAMU is coming off a Sweet Sixteen appearance in the 2022-23 season with an overall record of 27-7 and a conference record of 20-2. The Buffs have already started the 2023-24 season with a pair of wins in the D2CCA Tip-off Classic last weekend in Lubbock, Texas.

In the 2022-23 season, the Buffs averaged 82.6 points per game with a 44-percent shooting from the field. Defensively, they registered 32.3 rebounds per game with 7.5 steals per game.

The team returns eight players from last year's squad including Larry Wise, who led the Buffaloes with 16.4 per game and 45.7-clip shooting from the field. In the first two games of the 2023-24 season, Wise averaged 29.5 points while registering 13 total rebounds.
UP NEXT
The Mountaineers will play at home for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 17 at 7 p.m. against Texas A&M International. They will then play Texas A&M Kingsville on Saturday, Nov. 18 at 8 p.m., in Paul Wright Gym.
