DENVER Â Western Colorado soccer will seek to get its offense back on track in weekend Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road games at Regis University and Black Hills State University on Friday and Sunday, respectively.
WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Mountaineers (1-10-2 overall, 1-6 RMAC) have had difficulty finding goals since their 3-1 victory Oct. 1 over visiting N.M. Highlands. Western is looking for its first goal in four games since that home win.
- Regis poses a big challenge, having won all 10 of the games between it and the Mountaineers, while Western will be looking to extend a two-match winning streak over a Black Hills State team that has won just one game in six against the Mountaineers.
- Caileen Sienknecht leads Western with six points from three goals. Next in line in the points column are Reece Mercer and Natsuki Murakami with three points apiece, each on one goal and one assist.
- An injury between the pipes has thrust Aubree Orosco into the starting lineup for Western. She's played in four games with one start, and posts a 2.46 goals-against average along with a total of 17 saves. She is not short on experience, though, clocking more than 1,200 minutes in goal last season across 15 games and 14 starts and finishing the season with a 1.61 goals-against average.
REGIS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Rangers are 10-3-1 overall and 6-1-1 in RMAC action. Their lone conference loss was to then No. 20 Colorado Mesa, and the lone draw on their record came in their last match, a 2-2 tie at home against University of Colorado Colorado Springs.
- Regis is averaging 2.86 goals per game while surrendering just 1.21 per outing. It has accumulated 116 shots on goal and has allowed only 81 from opponents.
- Natalie Bunch and Madelin Gardner top the Rangers' scoring column. Bunch has 10 goals and 3 assists for 23 points, and Gardner adds 8 goals and 4 assists for 20 points. Thirteen different players have scored at least one goal.
- Bunch has three game-winners for the Rangers, and Gardner has two.
- Regis has used three goalkeepers, but Grace Glover and Kayla Arucan have logged the bulk of minutes on the line. Glover (5-0-1) has seven game starts and posts a 0.65 goals-against average with a total of 31 saves. Arucan (4-3-0) has started six games, has a 1.90 GAA, and has made a total of 31 saves.
BLACK HILLS STATE HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND | 2023 Stats
- The Yellow Jackets (3-8-2, 1-5-2) have not put a mark in the win column since a 1-0 victory over Colorado Christian on Sept. 21, both team's initial RMAC contest.
- Similar to Western, BHSU is not finding the back of the net with regularity, averaging 1.15 goals per game while giving up double that figure, 2.31 goals against. It also trails its opponents in total number of shots on goal, 70 to 93.
- Ten different Yellow Jackets have scored at least one goal, with Jady Hammer scoring four times to lead the team. Two of her goals have been game winners, with the other clincher coming from Leah Day on her only goal of the season.
- Splitting time in goal nearly equally are Makayla Dannelly (7 starts) and Morgan Wood (6 starts). Dannelly has the better GAA, 0.86, compared to Wood, 4.00. But Wood's 32 saves are two more than Dannelly's total.
UP NEXT
- Western will close out its season at home over the final two weeks. First up will be a Thu., Oct. 26 RMAC contest against Metropolitan State University of Denver. Colorado Christian University arrives next for the Oct. 29 Senior Day game.
- The regular season concludes on Wed., Nov. 1 against visiting Fort Lewis College.
