COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference on Thursday announced its 2021-22 Wrestling Academic All-Conference and Honor Roll teams, a listing that saw 10 from Western Colorado named to the honor roll squad.
Mountaineers earning spots on the honor roll were
Alex Alvarez,
Emilio Chavez,
Sammy deSeriere,
George Filholm,
Luke Hauser,
Hayden Johnson,
Jacob McCarley,
Kevin Meyer,
Dean Noble and
Espen Weber.
Alvarez posted a 10-10 record during the season wrestling the back-half of the season at 133 pounds, earning honorable mention All-RMAC honors. He narrowly missed qualifying for the national tournament placing fourth – top three advance – at the NCAA Division II Super Regional VI event.
deSeriere was also an honorable mention all-conference performer, completing his season with an 18-12 record at 285. He finished in sixth place at the regional event.
Noble finished the regional in fifth place, completing a season at 141 with a record of 19-12.
Chavez at 184 and 197 was 7-9 on the year, Johnson at 165 and 174 was 9-7, McCarley at 157 was 2-9, Meyer at 174 was 3-10, and Weber at 174 was 2-6. Filholm and Hauser both saw limited action during the season.
The RMAC announcement Thursday also named New Mexico Highlands University's Allen Michel its Wrestling Academic Athlete of the Year. Michel was a 2021-22 first-team All-RMAC selection.
Eligibility requirements set forth by the RMAC state that all-academic team nominees must carry a 3.300 cumulative grade point average from the most recently completed term; must have been a student at the member institution for at least two consecutive semesters; and must have been an active member of the team in the 2021-22 season.
