Mountaineer Men and Women Named to NCAA National Qualifier List

INDIANAPOLIS  The NCAA on Monday afternoon released the list of teams that will compete in the 2022 Division II Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships, with Western Colorado's men and women on both lists.

The Mountaineer men, ranked seventh nationally (USTFCCCA) earned one of 24 automatic (AQ) bids from the eight regions across the country, finishing third at the South Central Region Championship on November 19. The top three teams from each region receive AQs, with 10 more teams added via at-large bids to fill the field of 34 teams.

Western's women, ranked 10th nationally, finished fifth at the South Central regional but were extended one of the 10 at-large bids to join the field of 34.

The championship races will take place on Friday, December 2 at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, Washington. The Mountaineers will not be strangers to the course as they participated in the D-II Pre-Nationals meet at Chambers Creek on Sat., Oct. 22 when the women finished second and the men third.

The men's 10-kilomoter championship race will start at 11 a.m. MT with the women's 6K to follow at 12:15 p.m. MT.

Earlier on Monday, the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced the D-II All-Region teams. Western was represented by seven Mountaineers: Michael Grabowski, Jacob Hernandez, Albert Hesse and Simon Kelati on the men's all-region list, and Allison Beasley, Katie Doucette and Leah Taylor on the women's list.
