Gunnison, Colo.,  Western Colorado Cross Country, Men's and Women's, head to NCAA DII Championships
As the men's and women's cross country teams head into Nationals this week, they are primed to race against the top teams. The Division II Cross Country National Championships will take place on Saturday, November 22nd in Kenosha, Wisconsin.
They will be looking to improve upon their national rankings of 5th for the women and 6th for the men. At the South-Central Regional Championships the women finished 4th and men finished 3rd among top ranked national teams, Adams State and Colorado School of Mines. In order to receive a podium spot the women and men will have to finish within the top 4 teams at the National Championships.
The team looks to add to our All-American individual awards and are led by returning All-Americans; Allison Beasley, Lauren Willson, and Peyton Weiss on the women's side. The men are led by Tyler Nord and Oliver Diaz. Gaining an All-American spot means individual athletes will have to place within the top 40 finishes.
Head coach, Jen Michel, is thrilled for this meet. "The Mountaineers haven't been in Kenosha since '97 when the men finished 4th and the women finished 2nd. This season has been very special - We have great leadership, chemistry and buy-in. The team has risen to every challenge and looks primed to return to podium positions (top 4)  for both the men's and women's teams."
