ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. Western Colorado swimming and diving earned a split on the team scoreboard Friday evening at the University of New Mexico's Armond H. Seidler Natatorium, swimming past Colorado State University Pueblo, 239-46, but falling to the host Lobos, 196.5-102.5.
Jordan Maruska and
Abigail Yalcin registered first-place finishes for the Mountaineers in the meet against Division I New Mexico and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference foe CSU Pueblo.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Maruska's win came in initial individual event of the 16-event meet schedule, as she posted a time of 11 minutes, 19.42 seconds in the 1,000-yard freestyle to beat the runner-up from New Mexico by four seconds. Later in the meet she added a third place in the 500 free (5:32.56) and a sixth in the 100 free (56.68).
- Yalcin's event win was in the 200 butterfly in which her time of 2:14.37 was two seconds ahead of the New Mexico runner-up. Later in the meet Yalcin added a third place in the 100 butterfly (1:02.39).
- The 50 free was a strong event for the Mountaineers as they took second through sixth place, led by Taylor Grebe (25.55). Next, in succession, were Makenna Lambert (25.83), Courtney Coplan (26.41), Renée Roberts (26.49) and Afton Page (26.55).
- Scoring other second-place finishes for Western were Tayla Liddle in the 200 free (2:02.58), Elisa Elsberry in the 100 backstroke (59.82), and LynDea Turner in the 200 back (2:13.55).
- Third-place finishes were provided by Coplan in the 100 back (1:01.61), Grace Humbert in the 200 back (2:13.84), and Trinity Caudle in the 200 breaststroke (2:35.93).
- The Mountaineers touched in second place in both relay events. The foursome of Coplan, Addison O'Donnell, Yalcin and Lambert were second in the meet-opening 200 medley relay (1:52.49), and Maruska, Liddle, Lambert and O'Donnell combined for a runner-up finish in the 400 free relay (3:47.08) to close out the meet.
