PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado swimming and diving heads to Colorado State University Pueblo for a full slate of action Saturday at the CSU Pueblo Quad Meet. The Mountaineers will register dual-meet results against Adams State University, Southwest Minnesota State University, and the host ThunderWolves.
The meet events will be seeded as in an invitational format, but results will be separated out into three dual-meet scores.
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
Western opened its season nearly a month ago with a dual at Adams State, at which the Mountaineers took first
and second place in every event on their way to a 164-22 victory over the Grizzlies.
From that meet, freshman
Abigail Yalcin earned the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Swimmer of the Meet award (9/29/22) using individual first-place finishes in the 200-yard freestyle, the 200 individual medley and the 100 butterfly – along with swimming the butterfly leg of the meet-opening and victorious 200 medley relay – to earn the RMAC's first weekly award of the 2022-23 schedule.
Winning two events in the meet was freshman
Makenna Lambert, who hit the pad first in the 50 and 100 freestyles.
Western concluded the 2021-22 RMAC schedule with a third-place finish at the 2022 RMAC championship meet, compiling 508 points to tie Oklahoma Christian University for the Mountaineers' highest RMAC meet finish.
CSU PUEBLO HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
The ThunderWolves finished the 2022 RMAC meet in fifth place with 277 points.
Pueblo opened its 2022-23 campaign at the Colorado Mesa (University) Intermountain Shootout where it tied for sixth place. The meet included Division I programs BYU (fist place) and the U.S. Air Force Academy (second).
Its top finishes at the Shootout were 11th-place finishes in both the 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay.
ADAMS STATE HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
The Grizzlies tied CSU Pueblo for sixth place at the Intermountain Shootout.
Adams' highest placings at the event were an 11th in the 400 medley relay and a 12th in the 400 free relay.
Anjali Friedman notched a pair of third-place individual finishes – 100 breaststroke and 200 IM – in the dual against visiting Western Colorado and swam the breaststroke leg of the Grizzlies' third-place 200 medley relay.
Adams State will host Southwest Minnesota State in a dual meet Friday, Oct. 14.
SOUTHWEST MINNESOTA STATE HEADING INTO THE WEEKEND
The Mustangs finished eighth last season at the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference championship meet.
SMSU opened it's 2022-23 schedule at the Northern State (S.D.) Relays, a meet set up in similar format to the CSU Pueblo Quad (invitational seeding) but scored as dual meets with all relay events.
The Mustangs won both duals, topping host Northern State, 178-124, and Concordia-St. Paul, 184-112.
Winners at the meet for SMSU were the 200, 400, 500 and 800 free relays, along with the 3x100 backstroke and 3x100 breaststroke relays.
Adams State will host SMSU in a dual meet Friday at 6 p.m.
