GUNNISON, Colo. --- The Western Colorado football team returns to full action with a seven-game home slate in 2021, including its first home game in 665 days.
The Mountaineers open the 2021 season at home against Chadron State on Sept. 4 - Western Colorado's first game at the Mountaineer Bowl since Nov. 9, 2019, against New Mexico Highlands. The Mountaineers played just one game in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a road loss at Division-I FCS Stephen F. Austin.
Western Colorado, which went 5-6 in 2019 - including 5-5 in the RMAC, will follow their home opener with a pair of road games - a non-conference contest at Western New Mexico (Sept. 11) and the Colorado Classicat Adams State (Sept. 18) - before playing six of their final eight games at home.
The Mountaineers will host Fort Lewis on Sept. 25 and it will be Hall of Fame Weekend before it hits the road to take on Colorado School of Mines on Oct. 2. Western Colorado returns home to host NMHU on Oct. 9 for Homecoming Weekend and hosts Black Hills State the following week. After a road game at South Dakota Mines on Oct. 23, the Mountaineers host Colorado Mesa on Family Weekend and Operation Red, play a non-RMAC game against Lincoln University (Calif.) on Nov. 6 for Western's Military Appreciation Game and closes out the season at home against CSU Pueblo on Nov. 13 for Senior Day.
Western Colorado will be using a new ticketing system this year for all sporting events - Hometown Ticketing. Eventually, all games will be available at
GoMountaineers.com/tickets and tickets can be purchased online (or those Mountaineer Athletic Association members can claim their tickets for the game with a special code that will be given to them). More information on the new ticketing system will be available as the 2021-22 athletic season approaches.
