COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. Quarterback
Drew Nash has been voted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week in football, announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
Nash threw a pair of first-half touchdown passes in Saturday's game against visiting Colorado School of Mines, but still had to rally the fifth-ranked Mountaineers from a 17-13 halftime deficit.
And
rally might be an understatement as Nash engineered touchdown drives of 75, 81, 73, and 31 yards while the Western defense held the Orediggers scoreless over the final two quarters.
He opened the third quarter with a drive that ended in a go-ahead 4-yard touchdown run by
Quinn Bailey, then finished off the 81-yard drive himself with a 63-yard scoring burst around the left side on a read-option play.
The fourth-quarter 73-yard drive ended with Nash connecting with Bailey along the left sideline for a 14-yard catch and run touchdown, and Bailey closed out the final 31-yard drive with an 8-yard rushing touchdown.
For the game Nash was 21-of-32 for 234 yards and 3 touchdowns through the air, while rushing for 119 yards and a touchdown for game-high totals in both categories.
Nash, Bailey, the defense, and the rest of the No. 5 Mountaineers will take on No. 7 CSU Pueblo Saturday afternoon in the Mountaineer Bowl at the Rady Family Sports Complex in a national top-10 showdown.
