CHADRON, Neb. --- The Western Colorado wrestling team lost to Chadron State 27-13 in the Mountaineers' RMAC opener Friday night at Chicoine Center.
The Mountaineers (2-4 overall, 0-1 RMAC) were behind 5-0 before
Patrick Allis got the Mountaineers on the board at 133 pounds after a takedown with just seconds left gave him a 5-3 victory and make it 5-3 in the dual. Western followed it up at 141 with another last-second win as freshman
Dean Noble reversed CSC's (4-3, 2-2) Joseph Ritzen to win 8-6 and give the Mountaineers a 6-5 advantage.
Eleventh-ranked
Jason Hanenberg took care of business at 149 as the Western junior won by major decision 10-2 over the Eagles' Sebastian Robles to move Hanenberg to 6-0 on the season and give the Mountaineers a 10-5 lead.
But the Mountaineers managed just one more win the rest of the way - with that being from freshman
Cole Gray who trailed 6-5 with less than 20 seconds left before a takedown and four-point near fall gave him an 11-6 victory and cut the Eagles' lead to 15-13. But a pin by CSC at 197 and a forfeit at 285 by the Mountaineers made the final 27-13.
Next for the Mountaineers is a road matchup against Colorado Mesa 6 p.m. Thursday at Brownson Arena.
