GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado went head-to-head with the No. 1 ranked team in the country on Friday night as the Mountaineers lost 3-0 (27-25, 25-16, 25-22) to the Roadrunners of MSU Denver in Paul Wright Gym.

The Mountaineers played tough and held the lead for a good part of the first set, as they led 24-19 towards the end. The Roadrunners fought hard and scored six in a row to take the lead 25-24. After a service error, the score was ties 25-25 before MSU Denver scored two straight to close out the first set.

The first set loss took the wind out of the Mountaineers sail as the Roadrunners went on two win the next two sets by an average of six points.

Savanna Meyer led the Mountaineers with 12 kills on the night, along with recording two blocks. The next highest kills came from
Jordyn Todd with seven, then
Emily Mangone with six.

Defensively,
Jaeda Davis-Golliher led the team with three blocks, as
Elizabeth Rupprecht kept the ball alive with 25 digs on the night.

Earning 22 assists the three sets was Mountaineer
Hailee Martinez, as
Alex Galicia recorded 10 assist. Galicia also had the teams only service ace of the night.

The Mountaineers will be back in action Saturday at 6 p.m. as they host Colorado Christian for their last regular season home game of the season. The Mountaineers will also recognize their two graduating seniors,
Kat Finnerty and
Nicole Gonzales, following the match.
