Swim Team Finishes in 4th Place at A3 Performance Invite

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.  Western Colorado's women's swim team participated in the four-day A3 Performance Invite, hosted by Colorado Mesa University on Wednesday through Saturday, completing the meet in fourth place overall with 368 points.
Northern Arizona University captured the team title with 1,168 points.

Wednesday's events were timed finals, but the following three days were filled with morning preliminary heats and evening finals, mirroring postseason championship meet formats. The fastest eight finishers from the prelims advance into the evening's championship heat, and the next eight from the prelim heats come back in the evening for a consolation heat.

Lauren Linneman earned Western's first points of the meet, swimming to a ninth-place finish Wednesday in the timed finals of the 1,000-yard freestyle. Linneman posted a time of 11 minutes, 7.36 seconds.

The freshman also finished ninth in the timed final of the 1,650 free (17:56.79) later in the meet, and in between those two freestyle races, took 11th in the 400 individual medley (IM) with a time of 4:48.63.

Tayla Liddle had an outstanding meet, making it back to four consolation heats. Her best finish was in the 200 IM in which she improved upon her 13th-place prelim finish by earning 12th in the night's consolation heat with a time of 2:15.08.

Liddle also took 14th in both the 200 free (1:58.50) and 100 backstroke (1:00.34), and finished 16th in the 200 back (2:12.59).

Freestyle specialist Jordan Maruska swam her way into three consolation heats during the meet. She was 12th in the 100 free (54:15), 13th in the 200 free (1:58.11) and 15th in the 500 free (5:15.06).

Among other finishers from the weekend:
  • Courtney Coplan was ninth in the 100 back (57.41 seconds) and 10th in the 200 back (2:08.52)
