PUEBLO, Colo. --- Western Colorado swimming and diving opened up their season on Saturday with a dominant performance at the CSU Pueblo Tri Meet. The Mountaineers won against CSU Pueblo (120-107) and Adams State (177-43).

The Mountaineers only won four of the 13 events, but had the depth to bring home the victories along with numerous top two finishes in most the events.

Winning the 3-meter dive with a score of 195 was Western Colorado's
Sarah Mortenson. She also went on to place second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 205.85.

The Mountaineers dominated the 400-yard medley relay as they placed first and second in the event. On the first place team were Western Colorado's
Courtney Coplan,
Emily Jauch,
Katelyn Kulow and
Jordan Maruska as they finished in a time of 4:14.24. The second place Mountaineer team consisted of
Kali Stier,
Addison O'Donnell,
Demetra Fellows and
Taylor Grebe as they clocked a time of 4:15.61.

Taylor Grebe also won the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 56.62 seconds and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in 25.93 seconds. Grebe was also a member, along with
Jordan Maruska,
Courtney Coplan and
Addison O'Donnell, of the first place Western Colorado 400-yard freestyle relay team that won in a time of 3:46.84. The Mountaineers also took second in that event with
Adelaide Rau,
Shea Yuran,
Megan Walton and
Kali Stier as they touched the wall in 3:51.24.

Along with being on two first place relay teams,
Jordan Maruska also had two individual second place finishes. One in the 200-yard freestyle (2:04.53) and in the 500-yard freestyle.

Finishing runner up in their respected events were Mountaineers
Addison O'Donnell (100-yard breaststroke – 1:11.04),
Courtney Coplan (100-yard backstroke – 1:03.81) and
Demetra Fellows (100-yard butterfly – 1:04.19).

The Mountaineers will return to action on Friday and Saturday Oct. 23-24 when they head to the Colorado Mesa Duals.
