GUNNISON, Colo. --- Western Colorado volleyball defeated Black Hills State on Friday night in Paul Wright Gym, as the Mountaineers won 3-1 (W, 25-15, 25-23, 23-25, 25-16).

The Mountaineers came out swinging, as they won the first set by a ten-point margin. Then Western Colorado went on to win the second set, giving them a 2-0 lead. The Yellow Jackets stung back in the third, as they managed to stay just ahead of the Mountaineers in points giving them a 25-23 victory. Western Colorado bounced back and dominated Black Hills State n the fourth set to send them home.

Kat Finnerty another phenomenal night at the net as she recorded 10 blocks, along with earning 10 kills (the third most for the Mountaineers). Leading Western Colorado in kills was
Jordyn Todd who recorded 13 kills as teammate
Emily Mangone earned 12 kills.

Hailee Martinez had a big night for herself as she put up 25 assists, 14 digs and two aces in the four set match. Western Colorado's
Alex Galicia returned to action as she recorded 21 assist. Â

The Mountaineers had six aces in their victory on Friday as
Elizabeth Rupprecht and Martinez each earned two, with Todd and
Savanna Meyer each serving one. Rupprecht also led the team in digs with 15 on the night.

Western Colorado volleyball will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 23 as they host South Dakota Mines at 4 p.m. in Paul Wright Gym.
