WREST | Bronchos edge past Mountaineers

EDMOND, Okla. – Western Colorado University traveled to the University of Central Oklahoma on Saturday. The dual between the two ranked opponents was as close as expected. Nearly every bout was decided by just a few points, but in the end the Bronchos came away with a 22-10 victory over the Mountaineers.

19th-ranked Western (10-4, 3-1 RMAC) battled 18th-ranked UCO (9-3, 2-0 RMAC) point-for-point in every match. Six of the 10 bouts at Saturday's dual were decided by four or few points.

Brandon Supernaw earned the Mountaineers' biggest win of the day, earning a 14-3 major decision over Devin Crawl. Supernaw kept Crawl without a takedown in the match.

Jason Hanenberg also held his UCO opponent without a takedown. In fact, a takedown wasn't scored until the third period when Hanenberg earned an escape and the takedown against Nate Keim, earning 4-1 decision.

Dylan McBride earned another come from behind win. The freshman fell behind 2-0 entering the third period. McBride put UCO's Colton Looper to his back, earning a four-point nearfall. McBride held on for a 6-5 decision win to start his collegiate career 2-0.

UCO earned a last-minute escape at 125 pounds to earn a 6-5 decision win and a last-minute takedown at 165 pounds to earn a 3-1 decision win.

The Mountaineers will return to Gunnison and face New Mexico Highlands University on Feb. 2 for the first of three consecutive home duals.
