NEWBERRY, S.C. – Western Colorado University Wrestling competed in four duals over the course of five hours on Sunday morning. The Mountaineers won 3-of-4 at the Newberry Duals, notching another victory over a ranked opponent.

The ninth-ranked Mountaineers earned wins over Coker College, Limestone College and the 12
th-ranked Newberry College Wolves. The only loss of the day came against top-ranked and defending national champions St. Cloud State University.

Western (6-1, 1-0 RMAC) lost only seven out of thirty bouts in the first three duals, earning bonus points in 14 of those matches.

The Mountaineers ended the day with seven pins as a team and 108 team points.

The loss against SCSU was the first of the season for the Mountaineers. However, Western still has a winning dual record against top-25 ranked opponents this season at 3-1.

The Mountaineers opened the day against Coker and came away with a 40-6 win, earning falls in five matches.

Against 12
th-ranked Newberry, Western began the dual with two wins and were ahead 9-0 before the Wolves won the next 3-of-4 bouts to take a 15-12 lead. Western won the following three bouts and walked away with a 26-17 win over the host school.

In the third dual of the morning, Western took care of business, handing Limestone a 32-9 loss.

The finale came against top-ranked SCSU. The Huskies were able to keep the Mountaineers at bay, winning the dual 33-9.

Brandon Supernaw, the top-ranked wrestler at 174 pounds, was the lone Mountaineer to win all four matches on Sunday. Supernaw earned a fall and three decisions, including a 9-4 decision against SCSU's Kolton Eischens. Eischens is currently ranked third at 174 pounds.

Konnor Schmidt led Western in team points with 18. Schmidt, ranked second at 197 pounds, recorded two falls and a forfeit in the first three duals of the day. However, Schmidt was unable to maintain his unblemished season record, losing to SCSU's top-ranked wrestler Vince Dietz by a close 6-2 decision.

At 141 pounds,
Jason Hanenberg also went 3-1 at Newberry. Hanenberg earned a first period fall against Coker before losing to Isaiah Royal of Newberry by 10-5 decision. Royal is ranked second at 141 pounds.

Hanenberg avenged the loss with an 8-0 major decision against Limestone and a 9-5 decision against SCSU's Travis Swanson.

Cody Fatzinger continued to show how dangerous the 133 pounder can be when he steps on the mat. Fatzinger opened the day with two first-period falls, including a pin against Newberry's Zack Clary in just 49 seconds.

125-pounder
Trenton Piatt earned two wins, including an 11-9 sudden victory over 11
th-ranked Austin Neal of Newberry.

Justin Chenoweth earned three wins, including two decisions and one forfeit. The only loss of the day for Chenoweth came against second-ranked James Pleski of St. Cloud State.

Also earning three wins for the Mountaineers was
Sammy deSeriere at 285 pounds. deSeriere won his first match against Coker's Ramon Correa by 9-7 decision before facing eighth-ranked Patton Gossett of Newberry.

Gossett and deSeriere battled shot-for-shot and it took three extra periods before a winner could be declared. In the end, Gossett escaped with a 7-6 win.

deSeriere also earned a win by forfeit against Limestone and an 8-2 decision win over SCSU's Zachary Muller.

At 165 pounds,
Hunter Mullin earned another fall for the Mountaineer pin-count. Mullin pinned Coker's Bret Shurina just 1:13 into the second period.

Ruger Wyneken left with two wins at 197 pounds. Wyneken won his match against Coker's Pedro Daher by 18-5 major decision before winning by disqualification against Newberry's ZeBrandon Gant.
