GOLDEN, Colo. – Western State Colorado University swimming and diving heads to Colorado School of Mines on Saturday for a meet against the Orediggers. The meet is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. in the CSM Natatorium. Mines will be broadcasting the action live through Stretch Internet.
After a month's long hiatus, Western returns to the pool nearing the homestretch of the regular season. The Mountaineers dual with the Orediggers marks the first of three straight weekends of competition culminating with a home meet on January 27.
The last time out the Mountaineers swam a tight meet at Colorado College, falling 136-162 largely because of points in diving – an event the Mountaineer roster does not cover.
Versus Mines, the Mountaineers see a team they last raced at the A3 Performance Colorado Mesa Invite on December 2, 2017. In that outing the Mountaineers finished fourth with 532 points will Mines took second with 729 points.
In the most recent Division II dual meet rankings, Western sits 41
st but they face a tough test this weekend in 22
nd ranked Mines.
Heading into the weekend, expect the near indomitable
Randi Yarnell to pace the Mountaineers. With the championship segment of the season a month out, Yarnell currently sits top-five in NCAA DII in both the 100 and 200-yard freestyle. Over the 100-yard distance, Yarnell is the second-best performer in DII.
