GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University women's swimming and diving team will be back in the water this Saturday. The Mountaineers travel to Adams State University for a head-to-head dual meet, beginning at 10 a.m. in Plachy Hall Pool.
 
The Mountaineers are coming off a strong performance at the Colorado Mesa University A3 Performance Invite. Western finished fourth at the meet, just 36 points behind the third place Dixie State University Trailblazers.
 
Individually, Western's Randi Yarnell competed in seven events at the three-day meet in Grand Junction. The junior won all four individual events, claiming meet records in all four and recording NCAA Division II Championship "B" cut times in each event. All four times rank top-10 in Division II this season. In three relays, Yarnell helped Western secure a second-place finish, third-place finish and fifth-place finish.
 
In total, Yarnell compiled 80 points for the Mountaineers and was named the A3 Performance Swimmer of the Meet. She was then named the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Women's Swimmer of the Week and the Division II National Swimmer of the week by CollegeSwimming.com.
 
Her time of 50.26 in the 100-yard freestyle ranks top in Division II this season. In the 200-yard freestyle, Yarnell recorded a time of 1:48.80, which ranks third best. Her 50-yard freestyle time of 23.42 ranks tied for 10th in Division II, while her 55.02 time in the 100-yard butterfly ranks seventh best.
 
ASU was also competing at the A3 Performance Invite last weekend. The Grizzlies finished in sixth place with 232 team points.
 
Saturday will be the first time since the 2015-16 season the two programs will meet head-to-head. The Mountaineers have won the previous two.
 
The two schools were scheduled to meet last season and again this season. However, both duals were canceled due to weather. This season's home dual against the Grizzlies has been rescheduled to Jan. 27.
