Foam finger giveaway and costumes encouraged

GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University Swimming and Diving team continues the season at home on Saturday against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opponent Colorado Mesa University. The first race is slated to start at 10:00 a.m. in the Paul Wright Natatorium.

Attendance is free on Saturday and the first 20 fans in the natatorium will receive a Western Athletics foam finger. Fans are also encourage get into the festive spirit and sport their best Halloween costumes for the dual.

In the dual versus the Mavericks, the Mountaineers will swim the long format meet comprised of 16 events. In addition, relays will extend to 400 yards. Also, on Saturday, the distance swimmers will contest the 500 and 1,650 yard events, foregoing the 1,000 yard for the 'Mile.'

Coming off a strong win in their last dual with CSU-Pueblo, the Mountaineers will count on veterans and newcomers alike as they challenge the Mavericks. RMAC Preseason Swimmer of the year Randi Yarnell and freshman distance specialist Sydney Skiles both have the opportunity to tack on more points in the long format. In their last outing, the Mountaineers were dominant in the distance events and will look to extend that success in the 1,650 yard event this weekend.

In Colorado Mesa, the Mountaineers face the #2 team in the RMAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Additionally, in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)- TYR Top 25 preseason poll Colorado Mesa University ranks #18.

We encourage you to come out and support the Mountaineers in the first of two home duals this season. However, if you can't make it to the pool we will be streaming the action live on www.gomountaineers.com.
