Women's All-Academic IndividualsNEW ORLEANS – The Western State Colorado University men's and women's track and field programs were both named U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Teams for the 2014-15 academic year, the organization announced Friday afternoon. In addition, 14 Mountaineers were named All-Academic Individuals by the USTFCCCA.
The Mountaineer women recorded a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.33 for the year while the men finished with a 3.03 GPA. To be eligible for all-academic team honors, teams must earn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. It is the ninth-straight season the women's team has earned all-academic distinction and the fifth-straight season for the men.
On the men's side,
Luke Arnold (Sr., Wichita, Kan.),
Bryant Byrd (R-Fr., Perrysburg, Ohio),
Ryan Haebe (Jr., Evergreen, Colo.),
John Patterson (So., Fort Collins, Colo.),
Zach Wood (Sr., Castle Rock, Colo.) and
Noah Zorsky (So., Amarillo, Texas) were all-academic selections.
For the women,
Cali Antolini (Jr., Fountain, Colo.),
Dominika Kaszuba (Jr., Wroclaw, Poland),
Alicja Konieczek (Zsrit Powodowo, Poland),
Anna Marshall (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.),
Justine Podvin (Sr., Lille, France),
Sophie Seward (Fr., Marion, Ind.),
Brenda Suarez (So., Olathe, Colo.) and
Heather Waite (Fr., Loveland, Colo.) were named to the all-academic team.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have reached a provisional or automatic qualifying standard for the NCAA Championships in either indoor or outdoor seasons. In May, Arnold, Haebe and Antolini were named to the Capital One Academic All-District 6 Team for their performances athletically and in the classroom this season. Arnold and Haebe garnered national recognition when they were selected to the Capital One Academic All-America® Division II Men's Track & Field/Cross Country First Team in June.
