USTFCCCA Release |
NCAA Division II Program of the Year Final StandingsNEW ORLEANS – The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Thursday that the Western State Colorado University men's cross country/ track & field teams have finished sixth in the NCAA Division II Program of the Year standings.
Â
The USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award is awarded annually to the most outstanding cross country/track & field programs in each of the NCAA's three divisions for each gender. The award honors the institution that has achieved the most success in each academic year (spanning the cross country, indoor track & field and outdoor track & field seasons) based on the institution's finish at the NCAA Championships.
Â
In order to be eligible for the award, teams must qualify for each of the NCAA Championships. Scoring is based on the team's finish at each NCAA Championship in cross country and both indoor and outdoor track & field (i.e. 1st = 1 point, 2nd = 2 points, etc.) with the lowest total score for all three championships combined determining the award recipient. Ties among schools split points for positions taken.
Â
The Mountaineer men totaled 51 points after finishing fifth at the cross country championships, 10th at the indoor track & field championships and 36th at the outdoor championships.
Â
Western has finished in the top 10 of the USTFCCCA Program of the Year Award standings all seven seasons of the award's existence. The Mountaineers finished second in 2011-12 for their highest finish, and have also claimed third place twice (2008-09, 2012-13).
