GUNNISON, Colo. – Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team head to new places this weekend when the team takes on Westminster College for the first time in program history. The Mountaineers will take on the new Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference member Friday evening at 7 p.m. in Salt Lake City, Utah. The following evening Western State plays the 73
rd match in program history against Colorado Mesa University, the second-most played opponent behind Adams State with 76 matches.
Western State (5-12, 3-4 RMAC) currently sit ninth in the RMAC standings, a half-game back from Chadron State College. With the top-eight teams qualifying for the RMAC Tournament, the Mountaineers look to make a move on their remaining 11 conference opponents. Westminster (5-10, 2-5 RMAC) is currently tied with CSU-Pueblo for 11
th in the conference, while Colorado Mesa (7-8, 5-2 RMAC) is tied with MSU-Denver for fifth.
Several Mountaineers are coming off of career-high performances against Chadron State College last Saturday.
Jordan Eatwell put down the third-most kills in her career with 18, while
Allison Walker had the second-most assists in her career – in one less set than her career-best – with 51. Walker is currently fourth in the RMAC in total assists (506) and fifth in assists per set. Eatwell leads the team with 175 kills, just under three kills per set.
Defensively,
Amanda Maestas lead the team from the backrow. Maestas is second in the conference in total digs with 289 and fourth in the conference in digs per set with 4.74.
Defense has been the key to the Mountaineers success, with the team leading the RMAC with the least opponent assists per set. The team is also first in opponent kills per set and sixth in opponent hitting percentage.
