GUNNISON, Colo. – The Western State Colorado University women's volleyball team heads to the Denver area to rematch Colorado Christian University and No. 19-ranked Colorado School of Mines Friday and Saturday, respectfully. The Mountaineers handed both teams their first conference losses earlier in the season during the first home weekend, including a four-set upset of then No.12-ranked Colorado Mines. The Mountaineers will also take on Johnson and Wales University-Denver Thursday evening in Denver.
Western State (8-13, 6-5 RMAC) currently have a game advantage over Colorado Christian (10-11, 5-6 RMAC) and sit in seventh place in the conference. Colorado Mines (15-4, 9-2 RMAC) has won seven of its last eight matches since losing to Western State, and is currently in a four-way tie for first in the conference.
Jordan Eatwell leads the Mountaineers with 211 kills, averaging just over 10 kills per match. Eatwell is on pace with eight games remaining to become the first Mountaineer to eclipse 300 kills in a season since Erin Osleson in 2008. She is 17 kills away from passing her career-record of 228 kills set last season.
Also for the Mountaineers,
Tori Gaherty has found her groove, averaging over 11 kills a match in her last six starts. She is also averaging 10 digs per match in the last five.
Defensively,
Amanda Maestas is leading the conference in total digs with 360, 14 more than second place. She is six digs outside the top-50 in the nation. Maestas is also on pace to break the Mountaineer season record in total digs of 488, set by Tanya Clark in 1995.
Setter
Allison Walker has 637 assists thus far, averaging just over nine per set. She is fifth in the conference in assists and 10
th in aces with 23. Walker is averaging more than 30 assists per match and is on pace for over 850 assists, the most since Rachel Weakland put up 922 in 2010.
Western State has allowed only three teams in its last eight matches to hit above .100, and only one team in the last nine matches to hit above .200.
