GUNNISON, Colo. - Tuesday night will mark the first of six matches on the road for the Western State Colorado University volleyball team. The Mountaineers travel to Colorado State University - Pueblo to face the ThunderWolves on Tuesday night before traveling to Alamosa, Colorado to face rival Adams State University on Friday. Tuesday's match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. in Massari Arena.
Western (0-12, 0-8 RMAC), still searching for their first win of the season, will look to upset the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's seventh place team, CSU-Pueblo (10-7, 4-4 RMAC). The ThunderWolves are coming off a 3-1 win against Fort Lewis College at home and have won their past three of four matches.
To win on Tuesday, the Mountaineers will need to get past CSU-Pueblo's pesky defense. The ThunderWolves rank second in the RMAC in blocks per set at 2.21 and first in digs with 1,120 in 2014.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 3-0 loss to No. 20 Colorado Mesa University and tough 3-2 loss against Fort Lewis College.
In the previous meeting between the two schools, CSU-Pueblo came away with a 3-0 victory in Pueblo.
On Friday, the Mountaineers will try and take care of business against Adams State (8-8, 3-5 RMAC). The Grizzlies are currently ninth in the latest RMAC standings.
ASU enters Friday's match coming off a 3-1 loss to Western New Mexico University. The Grizzlies have lost their last five of six matches.
ASU won the last meeting between the two schools, 3-1 last season. The last time Western defeated Adams State was in 2010.
After the matches against Adams State and CSU-Pueblo, the Mountaineers will face New Mexico Highlands University, Western New Mexico University, Fort Lewis College and Colorado Mesa University, all on the road.
