GOLDEN, Colo.  Fresh from its winter training trip to Florida, Mountaineer swimming & diving will take on host Colorado School of Mines Saturday morning in a Rocky Mountain Conference dual meet at the CSM Natatorium.

This will be the first dual meet between the Orediggers, ranked 12th in NCAA Division II, and Western Colorado since October 2021. Saturday's event will also include a men's dual between Mines and Air Force.

The Mountaineers enter the event with a 3-0 record in duals, first-place finishes in the UNK Distance Meet and the UNK Sprint Meet, and a second-place finish to host and 20th-ranked St. Cloud State at the Rochester Invitational in the final meet of the fall semester.

At that Invite, Western's Morgan Nielsen swept the 200-, 500- and 1,650-yard freestyle events.

In addition to Nielsen's three-event sweep, Adessa Talbot twice set a new team record in the 200 butterfly, initially breaking the record during the preliminary heats then re-setting the school mark during the championship final of the event. Her team record at night followed her individual championship in winning the 200 backstroke earlier during that championship session.

Saturday's dual at Mines will follow the 13-event format, with the short distances of each stroke and the long individual medley in the swimming event schedule, slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.:
  • 400 medley relay
  • 1,000 freestyle
  • 200 freestyle
  • 50 freestyle
  • 400 IM
  • 100 butterfly
  • 100 freestyle
  • 100 backstroke
  • 500 freestyle
  • 100 breaststroke
  • 200 freestyle relay
Western's Alexandra Wallis will take to the diving boards beginning at 8 a.m., competing on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards prior to the swimming events list.
