Gunnison, Colo.,   After a strong start at the Maverick Stampede, the Mountaineers head to Oklahoma looking to keep the momentum rolling.
 
MOUNTAINEERS HEADING INTO THE MEET

• The Mountaineers enter the 2025 season ranked third in the men's and tied for fourth in the women's cross-country Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference preseason polls.
• At the first meet of the season, the Gig Leadbetter Maverick Stampede, the Western Colorado men's team placed second while the women's team took first.
• Leading the way for the Mountaineers, junior Tyler Nord placed fifth overall, first among NCAA Division II athletes, and was the top finisher for Western.
• Sophomore Oliver Diaz followed closely, finishing seventh overall and securing seven points for WCU.
• Graduate student Jan Thewes and senior Esteban Reyes finished ninth and tenth, respectively.
• In total, seven Mountaineer men finished in the top 20.
• On the women's side, senior Allison Beasley claimed the individual title, crossing the finish line six seconds ahead of the field.
• Right behind her, junior Peyton Weiss and senior Lauren Willson finished third and fourth, respectively.

UP NEXT
The Mountaineers head to Colorado Springs, Colo., on Fri., Oct. 10, to compete in the UCCS XC Open hosted by the University of Colorado, Colorado Springs.
