PUEBLO, Colo. Western Colorado swimming and diving earned the Day 2 victory at the 3rd annual Dan France Continental Divide Cup, earning the Cup trophy with a combined two-day score of 1,404 points.
The Mountaineers had earned the Day 1 team victory with 678.5 points, then added 728.5 points during Saturday's Day 2 meet to claim the Cup for the third time.
Claiming just one first-place finish while racking up the team victory on Friday, Western earned nine first places Saturday, beginning with Alexanda Wallis' win in the 3-meter (6 optionals) diving event.
Just past the midway point of Saturday's meet schedule, the Mountaineers'
Leah Wagner set the Sam Jones Natatorium record in winning the 200-yard breaststroke, touching the pads in first place with a pool record time of 2 minutes, 29.27 seconds.
The initial first-place finish in the individual swimming events Saturday was be Western's Agnieszka Rudomino, who captured the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 18:44.84.
Adessa Talbot picked up the Mountaineers' next first, taking the 200 butterfly with a 2:13.89 clocking.
Emma Linscombe led a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 individual medley. She won the race to the wall over Amaya Warren (1:04.50) and
Demi Blaylock (1:04.67) to hit the pad first with a time of 1:04.30.
Cate Coffield followed with a win in the next event, the 200 backstroke (2:14.47), just ahead of Wagner's record-setting win to give Western four consecutive first-place finishes.
Wallis added a first in the 3-meter (5 voluntaries) event, and in the final individual event of the day, Wagner added another first in the 400 IM.
The Mountaineers put a cap on the day by winning the final event, taking the 200 free relay in a time of 1:43.22.
