Mountaineers Top Continental Divide Day 1 Scoreboard

PUEBLO, Colo.  Western Colorado swimming and diving finished Friday's opening-day session of the two day Dan France Continental Divide Cup in the top spot on the team leaderboard, finishing Friday night with a team score of 675.5 points.

Nebraska-Kearney ended the night in second place with 480.5 points, just ahead of host Colorado State Pueblo's 475 points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Friday began with 1-meter, six optionals diving, with Western's Alexandra Wallis placing second with a total of 203.20 points.
  • CSU Pueblo won the opening swim event, the 200-yard medley relay, but the Mountaineers vaulted into the lead in the team scoring by taking second and third place in the event.
  • The initial individual event was next, and Western set the tone for the rest of the session by taking the top four spots in the 1,000 freestyle. Freshman Agnieszka Rudomina touched first in a time of 11 minutes, 16.30 seconds, ahead of teammates AvaMarie Hopewell (11:25.85), Sophia Del Rosario (11:26.81) and Sidney-Ann Morris (11:32.06).
  • The Mountaineers would take first place in only one other event – Leah Wagner's win in the 200 individual medley (2:15.73) – but continued to place three or four swimmers within the top five of most of the other events.
  • Brionna Thomas picked up second-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle races, as Elizabeth Sagunsky, Cate Coffield and Morgan Nielsen finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively in the 200, and Rudomina and Hopewell finished third and fourth in the 500.
  • The 100 butterfly also produced second through fifth place finishes for Western. Kylee Ruhser was second, followed by Danika Lambert, Joanna Swiderska and Elisa Elsberry.
  • Coffield added a second place in the 100 backstroke and in the final individual event of the night, Ella Fries would place second in the 100 breaststroke.
UP NEXT
  • Session two of the Cup is on Saturday, scored as a separate meet with different events.
  • The scores from Day 1 and Day 2 will then be combined to crown a Continental Divide Cup champion.
