GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. A Western Colorado record fell Saturday at the CMU Last Chance Meet in El Pomar Natatorium as the Mountaineers'
Alexandra Wallis set a new mark for six dives on the 3-meter board with a score of 272.55 points.
An event providing both divers and swimmers a final chance to surpass NCAA Division II qualifying standards before the February 23 deadline, Wallis' total achieved that task with the required six-dive score in addition to the 11-dive total on 3-meter which she'd already earned earlier in the season.
Wallis will head to Indianapolis with teammate
Chloe Brown – whose 6-dive, 3-meter record Wallis broke – for the NCAA DII Diving Qualification Meet on March 11 at the Indiana University Natatorium, the site of multiple U.S. diving and swimming Olympic Trials.
Wallis and Brown will look to qualify for the championship meet on both the 3- and 1-meter boards. The top 22 women's scorers on each board at the Qualification Meet will advance to the DII Swimming & Diving Championships that run from March 11-15.
In addition to Wallis' efforts at the Last Chance Meet, Western's
Sophia Del Rosario competed in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle. Del Rosario finished in a time of 18 minutes, 40.42 seconds, which with the altitude adjustment from Grand Junction translates to a season-best time of 18:20.42.
