KEARNEY, Neb. The Western Colorado swimming & diving team is back in the pool and on the boards after almost a month break from competition, making the trip to Nebraska for Friday and Saturday meets hosted by University of Nebraska Kearney.
Friday afternoon is the UNK Distance Meet, beginning with 1-meter diving at 12 p.m. MT, followed by the start of racing between the lanes at approximately 3:10 p.m. Saturday's UNK Sprint Meet starts at 8 a.m. MT.
Alexandra Wallis will be the first competitor for Western in Friday's opening diving session. Wallis will also be the Mountaineers' final competitor as 3-meter diving concludes Saturday's meet schedule.
A couple of Mountaineer swimmers earned top seeds in their respective events, beginning with
Morgan Nielsen in the first swimming event on Friday, the 1,000-yard freestyle. She has company at the top of the psych sheet as teammates
Brionna Thomas and
AvaMarie Hopewell are seeded second and third, respectively.
In the final individual event Friday,
Leah Wagner enters as the top seed in the 200 breaststroke, with
Ella Fries seeded third.
Friday's event schedule also sees
Adessa Talbot seeded second in the 200 butterfly,
Agnieszka Rudomina seeded second in the 200 backstroke, and Wagner seeded third in the 400 individual medley.
Saturday's event list shows Fries and Wagner seeded second and third in the 100 breaststroke,Â
Joanna Swiderska seeded second in the 100 butterfly, Wagner as the third seed in the 200 IM, and Thomas seeded third in the 500 freestyle.
The program kicked off its 2025-26 schedule winning both meets of the 3rd Annual Dan France Continental Divide Cup on Sept. 19 and 20 to capture the team trophy for the third consecutive time.
Western hosted Southwest Minnesota State at home on Oct. 4 and downed the Mustangs by a score of 165-113.

The team travels to Rochester, Minn., for the three-day Rochester Invitational hosted by St. Cloud State on Dec. 4-6.
