DURANGO, Colo.  Fifth-ranked Western Colorado hits the highway for its next contest, a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference battle Saturday, October 4 at Fort Lewis College with the Mountaineers looking to extend a six-game winning streak over the Skyhawks.

WESTERN COLORADO HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025 Stats
  • The Skyhawks last defeated Western (4-0 overall, 2-0 RMAC) in 2017 when FLC scored a pair of touchdowns in the final six minutes to win 14-13. Since then, the Mountaineers have reeled off six straight wins in the series and by an average score of 45-7.
  • Western is coming off a strong defensive performance, holding the nation's top-rank offense to nearly 300 yards below its per game average in a 30-3 win over visiting New Mexico Highlands.
  • Setting a Mountaineer Bowl attendance record (3,286) at the game, Western also limited the nation's leading rusher to just 57 yards, more than 220 yards below his season average.
  • That Mountaineer defense is ranked nationally in several categories. Allowing only 12.5 points per game, the defense is eighth in the country, while ranking 16th in total defense (291.3 YPG). Often times living in the opposing team's backfield, Western is seventh in team tackles for loss (9.3 per game) and 15 in sacks at 3.0 per game.
  • The Mountaineer offense ranks 10 in scoring (39.5 PPG), 19th in time of possession (33:05) and attacks with the nation's 33rd-ranked rushing offense (193 YPG).
  • Quarterback Drew Nash guides the offense, ranking fourth in Division II in points responsible for (96) while ranking 11th in both passing touchdowns (11) and passing efficiency (167.6).
  • Bailey Quinn – with a pair of touchdowns in the Highlands game – and Gabe Schubarth (6.3 YPC) are most often the running backs in the backfield with Nash, who himself has five rushing touchdowns.
  • Caden Measner's three scoring receptions leads the receiving corp, but tight ends Daniel Parsek and Kai Goetze each have two scoring receptions apiece.
  • The linebacking group of Ian Loomis, Cameron Cooper, Kade Musser and Kaden Stewart are the top four tacklers on the team, combining for 82 tackles, including 15 TFLs. Loomis also has an interception, returning it 55 yards for a pick-6 to close out the scoring against Highlands.
FORT LEWIS HEADING INTO THE GAME | 2025 Stats
  • The Skyhawks are 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the RMAC, with the lone victory a 58-10 win Arizona Christian (NAIA). Their last two games were conference contests, a narrow 25-19 home loss to Black Hills State, and an even narrower loss, 22-21, at South Dakota Mines on a field goal with nine seconds remaining.
  • The 58 points from its victory skews FLC's points per game average (28), but it's losses are only by an average of 9 points.
  • The Skyhawks have a star player on defense in linebacker Jake Penney, who is ninth national in solo tackles per game (6.00) and 10th in total tackles per game (10.8).
  • The pass defense has made things difficult on opposing quarterbacks, coming up with a total of seven interceptions this season.
  • Even if taking away the 382 total yards of offense from its rout over Arizona Christian, the Skyhawk offense averages just over 300 YPG. However, that same offense is converting just 27 percent of its third downs.
  • It's been running back by committee so far this season. Three backs – Orlando Guevara, Jake Jones, and Jamal Johnson – are splitting nearly equal time in the backfield. Guevara's 22 rushes have accumulated 124 total yards, Jones' 20 carries have gained 122 yards, and Johnson's 29 carries have gone for a net of 115 yards.
  • Jacob Morris has seen the most action of three quarterbacks who have played this season. He is averaging 162 passing yards per game, connecting on 53% of his throws while tossing three touchdowns against one interception.

It will be Homecoming Weekend for Western's next game, an RMAC contest on Oct. 11 against visiting Black Hills State.
