Turner Voted RMAC Swimmer of Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.  Western Colorado's LynDea Turner has been voted the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference's women's swimmer of the week, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office.

Turner raced to the high-point award during the Mountaineers' title-winning weekend at the Colorado College Classic.

She swam to first-place finishes in two individual events, led off two first-place relay teams, and added a pair of second-place finishes in accumulating 74 points at the three-day Classic.

Turner won the 200-yard backstroke in Day 2's championship session with a time of 2 minutes, 13.06 seconds, then won the 100 back in the finals session Sunday afternoon, touching the pad in a winning time of 1:01.46.

She led off Western's winning 400 medley relay team (4:08.00; 1:01.99 backstroke split) Saturday night and did the same Sunday for the first-place 200 medley relay foursome (1:52.96; 29.97 seconds backstroke split).

In the initial individual event following the relay on Saturday, Turner swam to a second-place in the 200 individual medley (2:19.17), then repeated that feat Sunday, placing second in the 400 IM (4:52.25) moments after leading off the triumphant 200 medley relay.

Turner and her Mountaineer teammates captured the team title at the Classic, accumulating 1,259.5 points to finish ahead of the host Tigers (946 pts.) in second place.

Western Colorado will host Adams State University on Saturday for one final tune-up before the RMAC swimming & diving championship meet in Grand Junction, Colo., on Feb. 11-15.
