ALAMOSA, Colo. Western Colorado swimming & diving continued its dominance into Day 2 of the 2024 Coaches Classic, earning 123 more points to capture the team title of the two-day event with a total of 291 points.
Colorado State Pueblo finished second with 138 points with Adams State in third with 13 total points.
The event was contested on consecutive days with separate event schedules and scores. Western hosted Friday's session with the meet moving to Adams State for Saturday's concluding session. Each team's point totals from the separate days were combined to determine the eventual team standings.
Pueblo took the opening event Saturday, the 400-yard medley relay, but the Mountaineers responded in the next event by sweeping the first four places of the 1,650 freestyle.
Morgan Nielsen, a participant at the 2023 NCAA Division II championship meet, touched first and was followed by
Sidney-Ann Morris,
Sophia Del Rosario and
AvaMarie Hopewell.
Western continued to add first-place points with
Adessa Talbot's win in the 200 butterfly and
Makenna Lambert's victory in the 100 individual medley.
The final individual winner for the Mountaineers was
Joanna Swiderska in the 50 butterfly. Swiderska had won the 100 butterfly event Friday and placed third in the 200 butterfly earlier in Saturday's meet.
Nabbing second-place finishes on Saturday were
Ella Fries in the 50 breaststroke and 100 IM;
LynDea Turner in the 200 backstroke;
Leah Wagner in the 200 breaststroke; and
Zoe Wolfe in the 50 butterfly.
Saturday concluded with a 1-2 Western finish in the 200 free relay, with Hopewell, Fries,
Madi Zach and Lambert teaming up for the relay victory.
On Friday both
Chloe Brown and
Alexandra Wallis achieved the first of two required scores for the NCAA 2025 Diving Qualification Meet. They surpassed the qualifying score of 390.00 for 11 dives on the 1-meter board with Brown totaling 429.45 and Wallis scoring 405.05 for her total.
