HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Seniors Seyun Park and Kennedy Kelly put the first two points on the board for WCU. Traded kills put the score at three a-piece. CCU took their first lead 8-6. Two kills in a row from junior Olive Rolseth tied the score 8-8. A few more ties between the teams until the Cougars went on a few small runs, taking set one 25-15.
  • WCU earned a quick 3-0 edge but shortly after CCU took the reins. The Cougars took note of what worked for them in set one and carried it over. A draw at 7-7 then the Mountaineers took a 9-8 lead, but a 16-point run for CCU put them at a 24-10 advantage. WCU earned two scores before the Cougars finished set two 25-11.
  • The Mountaineers were resilient starting set three with a 3-0 edge. Dominating the offense, WCU jumped out to a 13-5 front. Western Colorado took advantage of each set and maintained their lead resulting in a victorious third set 25-16.
  • Western Colorado forced Colorado Christian into a fourth set. Scoring first were the Mountaineers 2-0. The Cougars quickly turned things around taking the upper hand 9-7. Scores went back and forth for the next few rallies. CCU did not want to see a fifth set, hitting the ball in just the right spot, winning the set 25-14 and the game 3-1.
