KEARNEY, Neb.  Though Western Colorado's
Ellie Kubena halved the deficit in the 65th minute, two early goals and an insurance goal late by host University of Nebraska Kearney were too much for the Mountaineers to overcome in a 3-1 non-conference loss Friday to the Lopers.
JUST THE FACTS
Final score: Nebraska-Kearney def. Western, 3-1
Records: Western 1-4, Neb.-Kearney 4-0-1
Location: Ron & Carol Cope Stadium at Foster Field, Kearney, Neb.
HOW IT HAPPENED
	- Kearney got off to a fast start, getting a goal on its first shot of the game as Gracie Perez headed in a corner kick from Kea Barnes early in the 7th minute.
- The Lopers, and Perez, added a second goal 10 minutes later to put Western two goals down, but with plenty of time left to play.
- Karly Morkunas put one on frame soon after Perez' second marker, but UNK's Susie Bovaird came up with the save to keep Western off the scoreboard.
- Trailing 2-0 at the halftime break, Western began the second half with a corner kick and shot on goal from Cianna Thomas, but again, Bovaird was there for the stop to maintain her team's two-goal advantage.
- It was Kubena who finally solved Bovaird, curling a 35-yard shot into the upper left corner in the 65th to halve the deficit and give life to the Mountaineers' side.
- A Natsuki Murakami shot and Bovaird save in the 73rd minute was almost the equalizer for Western, but it would turn out to be the last shot on goal the attack would muster. The crushing blow, though, was a Loper goal in the 85th that iced the game for the home team.
TURF NOTES
	- The Mountaineers were limited by the Lopers defense all afternoon, accumulating a total of seven shots and five on goal. At the other end, the UNK attack generated 23 shots, 11 of which were on frame.
- Starter Aubree Orosco and Ashlyn Fitzpatrick teamed up goal for Western, coming up with five and three saves, respectively.
